When you are getting started in surfing you might wonder about how the waves will be and when is the best time to go, but you will also be wondering about the clothing and accessories you will need. Right?

Specifically, many people ask what to wear for the first time surfing.

If we speak worldwide, the answer depends on the temperature outside and inside the ocean, BUT as we are located in a beautiful and tropical piece of land where the sun shines most of the day and temperatures do not go below the 26 celsius, here is what you need to know.

  1. It is not the same for women than for men: As a woman, you can use either one part or two-part swimsuit. It is important for you to feel comfortable and secure and make sure the suit is tight enough to keep everything in place while catching some waves!
  2. In case you are a guy it is even more simple, just wear some boardshorts you feel comfortable with and you will be just okay.
  3. Rash Guards are not 100% necessary but it helps you to protect your skin from the sun and from some scratches you might get due to the contact between your skin and the wax on your board.
  4. Don´t wear any accessories like bracelets, necklaces, or rings, the waves can be a little rough sometimes and you don’t want to lose your precious items in the middle of the ocean.
  5. No special footwear is required but remember to bring some flip flops to prevent your feet from getting burnt on the sand.

Don´t forget the sunscreen! You might want to get a special surf sunscreen for your face as the regular ones can wash up really fast with salt water.
